Selena Gomez star of Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place"  has become a household name and is fast becoming a star in her own right. At seven years of age, Selena made her fist step onto the small screen with the purple dinosaur that got on every parent's nerves: "Barney and Friends." Acting alongside life-long friend, Demi Lovato, Selena only stayed on the show for two years, but learned everything she could about cameras and acting. It was not long before Disney came knocking.
Teen Wizard    In 2007 the young teen had acted in little cameo roles on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana", but her bi break came when she was set for her very own show. In the "Wizards of Waverly Place", Selena Gomez plays a young teen witch who is sassy and rebellious, yet has a heart of gold.   As with all teens, Selena Gomez could not escape the drama that came with the fame, and found herself caught up in a tabloid whirlwind. In 2008, Selena was compared to Miley Cyrus and took it as a compliment, however Miley and a friend started a feud with Selena and her friend Demi Lovato, mocking them on a YouTube video. All parties denied the rumors of a large feud beginning, but the drama did not end there.
Princess of the Small Screen   Later that same year, Selena Gomez was seen with Miley Cyrus' ex Nick Jonas and rumors of a romantic interlude ensued. The drama was put on the back burner though, as Selena Gomez had bigger fish to fry, namely co-starring in a movie with Demi Lovato, "Princess Protection Program." The young star also caught the main role in the direct-to-video movie "Another Cinderella Story." And thus, a princess of theatre was born.   The 2009 year brought new opportunities to Selena, including replacing Madonna as the voice of Princess Selenia in "Arthur and the Vengeance of Maltazard." Romance was in the air too and Selena Gomez quickly hit it off with fellow teen heartthrob Taylor Lautner, co-star of the blockbuster saga "Twilight." In 2010 Selena Gomez made it to the big screen with such actors as Bridget Moynahan and John Corbett and Josh Duhamel in "Ramona and Beezus." This was also the year Selena Gomez became a fashionista businesswoman and not just a pretty face when she launched her own clothing line Dream Out Loud, exclusive to Kmart.
Unicef Goodwill Ambassador   Selena Gomez also became the lead singer of Selena Gomez and The Scene, who released their second album, "A Year Without Rain" in 2010. Selena told Access Hollywood, "My influences, especially with this record, would be Cheryl Cole from the U.K. and Katy Perry.” To go with her multi-talented persona. Selena Gomez is also a UNICEF Ambassador who has worked her magic around the world, including in Chile, where she helped raise awareness and promote early childhood education and development in Chile. In 2011 Selena Gomez hit the tabloids again with another romantic connection, this time to tween heartthrob Justin Bieber. The pair, who are apparently just friends, were caught kissing in St. Lucia and remain quite attached to one another. This year we can expect to see much more of Selena Gomez, specifically in the main roles of upcoming movies: "Monte Carlo" and "Thirteen Reasons Why."
